The Medical Biotechnology Group > Protein Chemistry Research Unit (Dr. Behroz Vaziri)

The main research activities of this unit are to achieve new vaccines, biomarkers or target drug molecules, for which two-dimensional electrophoresis technique is used to prepare the protein map. Some of the research projects that have been done or are being implemented include:

Proteomics of BHK cells, neuroblastoma, mouse brain and human brain infected with rabies virus using two-dimensional electrophoresis technique and mass spectrometry, study of the splenic lymphocyte proteome of mice infected with two different strains of rabies virus, searching for diagnostic biomarker in the serum of people with gastric cancer, examination of RP-HPLC and differences between Aspergillus fumigatus wild-type proteome and mutant axc4 strain, Launching the Cappillary Electrophoresis system as a new and fast technique for the study of proteomics and analysis of peptides and pharmaceutical proteins.

Moreover, provision of analytical services for amino acids, peptides and proteins in order to qualitatively control recombinant or synthetic protein drugs to research centers and pharmaceutical factories is another activity of this group.
