Malaria and Vector Research Group > National Malaria Molecular Reference Laboratory

The laboratory aims to help control and eliminate malaria initiatives at the Ministry of Health, Center for Disease Control and WHO/EMRO in the following areas:

- Diagnosis and approval of infected species in suspicious cases from other endemic countries of Malaria

- Molecular detection and monitoring of resistance to antimalarial drugs

- Diagnosis of asymptomatic cases of malaria

- Evaluation of malaria elimination programs in Iran through providing basic information to monitor the impact of malaria control and elimination strategies using serological and molecular methods

- Holding courses and workshops at regional and national levels

- Holding field workshops to update the information of regional experts in EMRO and local countries in line with the malaria elimination program

- Launching standard protocols and guidelines for malaria elimination strategies in Iran

- Identification and approval of various species of insects and arthropods in Iran and other endemic countries

- Diagnostic tests for infectious agents (plasmodium, virus, bacteria, fungi) in vectors

- Molecular detection and monitoring of resistance to toxins and insecticides

- Participation in the training of health centers and hold training courses as training workshops, short-term and medium-term national, regional and field retraining courses

- Consulting with other collaborating centers on trouble-shooting and optimization of related diagnostic and research methods

- Active participation in the implementation of the External Quality Assurance Services (EQAS)

- Participation in the compilation and updating of national guidelines and standards for malaria diagnostic methods in collaboration with the National Health Reference Laboratory and the Institute of Standards and Industrial Research

- Participation in national, regional and international malaria screening programs in collaboration with the Center for Disease Control, Ministry of Health

- Cooperation in the implementation of domestic or national audit programs at the request of the National Health Reference Laboratory
